About Gene Price Motorsports
Gene Price Motorsports didn’t have the same story book beginnings of a lot of race teams. It wasn’t started in go-karts and built up to what it has become today, which is one of the top NASCAR K&N Pro Series West operations and a booming motorsports business.
No, Gene Price Motorsports really started on a whim.
Gene Price had owned a Super Late Model team for a couple of years, running primarily at Irwindale Speedway. Greg Pursley was the team’s crew chief.
Then, a simple question put the future into motion.
Greg, a former NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Champion, asked Gene if he could drive one of the team’s backup cars in the Super Late Model portion of the 2007 NASCAR Toyota All Star Showdown. Price granted Greg this wish, and Greg promptly went out to the track and won, which Gene thought was “pretty cool.”
At that point, Gene was planning to sell everything and get out of racing. At the same time, he was in the process of selling his personal business, building himself a new home on the river and getting ready to enjoy the perks of retired life.
But in early 2008, Gene got a call from Greg telling him that he had bought a West Series car and wanted to run a limited schedule, but needed a little help along the way to do so. So Gene helped his former crew chief and Showdown-winning driver get everything he needed to run at Phoenix in April of 2008. Greg proved that he had what it took to be successful once again, running up front before something broke on the car.
As a gesture of thanks, Greg stopped by Gene’s house on his way home. Soon after that, Gene Price Motorsports returned.
Greg headed to another West Series event, this time in Iowa, and Gene went along. That got the racing bug back in Gene and the rest, they say, is history.
The team began to buy some cars, a hauler and built a new shop in Parker, Arizona.
But Gene didn’t want to just be a race team. He was looking to do more for the racing community. So in addition to the race team, Gene Price Motorsports expanded to include a full-service race shop that provided chassis work, a parts store and support to local race tracks.
Gene Price Motorsports even sponsors a Late Model and Legend Series that race at both Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway and Havasu 95 Speedway.
It took little time for Gene Price to realize that he is not the kind of guy can really retire. Instead, racing and winning with his own team, along with supporting and helping out local racers, is what he truly loves to do and what keeps him busy.
After just 3 full-time years in the series, Gene Price Motorsports won the 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro West Series Championship with Greg Pursley. They accomplished a repeat performance in 2012 winning the NASCAR K&N Pro West Series Championship this time with Dylan Kwasniewski behind the wheel.
The battle between teammates, Greg and Dylan went down in history as the closest points battle in the history of the series.
2013 brought a new teammate to GPM, Cameron Hayley clinched the 2nd spot and Pursley finished the seaon 3rd in points.
